Data Protection

 

Phantom AI considers the protection of data of natural persons as highest priority and handles this type of data in compliance with the GDPR and BDSG (German Federal Data Protection act).  Our employees are contractually obliged to act on behalf of these and observe all privacy law regulations.

 

Phantom AI develops advanced driver assist systems making driving safer for all traffic participants.

For this purpose, Phantom AI collects video data with marked vehicles on public roads and test sites for the sole purpose of training the algorithms.

Phantom AI is the controller within the meaning of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) for the processing of personal data related to the video recordings for the development of advances driver assistance systems.

  • What type of data is collected and processed and for what purpose?

Phantom AI’s vehicles collect video data from the vehicles’ surroundings.  This can include traffic participants such as cars, trucks, pedestrians and bicyclists.  Also, traffic signs and traffic lights as well as road markings are recorded.

Under standard operational conditions human faces are not recognized as the vehicle passes fast and the cameras are not tuned and intended for these purposes.  Exceptions might occur e.g. where the vehicle stands at a red light, or passing slowly, and the pedestrians are close by.  In these or similar cases it cannot be ruled out that personal data within the meaning of GDPR might be recorded.

The information recorded is used solely for the purpose of training algorithms to detect and analyze the traffic environment to implement safety features such as automatic emergency breaking or lane keeping assistance.

Phantom AI has no interest in and no intention for the identification of persons or vehicle registrations.

Personal data is processed in compliance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). The legal basis for the data processing is the legitimate interest of Phantom AI for the purposes stated above (Article 6 para. 1f. GDPR).

  • How long will the data be stored?

Phantom AI will store data only as long as it is needed for the above purpose (typically no longer that the development project duration) and always complying with the legal obligations.
